Kept between two gulfs of striking beauty, that of the Tigullio Gulf and the Paradiso, is located 36 km from Genoa.
The coast is jagged and irregular, and kissed by a sea of vibrant color and extraordinary beauty.
The promontory over which comes the Portofino is flourishing offshoot of 'Appennino.
600 meters high gives the tourist the strong emotions.
In general, however, the context is typically Mediterranean.
The coastline is dotted with small towns that border the sea, where the colors and vibrancy of the same excel, affecting not only the mood of the people, but certainly also the architecture and colors of traditional houses.
The reef is broken by rugged beaches and marinas characteristic that made the town famous throughout the world.
The variety of fauna and flora housed in these areas has meant that it was set to be the natural park of Portofino, which includes the promontory of the town on both sides, one overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio and the other on the Paradise, and it was established Marine Protected Area of Portofino.
This includes a strip of sea in front of the promontory, where the depths, natural continuation of the same, are characterized by steep parapets and inhabited by a diverse number of species, the observation of which has ensured the emergence of several centers for diving.
The beauty of the coast has attracted many filmmakers over the years that followed, among which Mike Newell in 1992, Michelangelo Antonioni and Wim Wenders in 1995.
To underline how much fame to enjoy outside of Italy we say that a small Portofino has been recreated in the United States at the Portofino Bay Resort.
It has hosted many famous people including Friedrich Nietzsche certainly remember, Guglielmo Marconi, Franco Solinas Emanuel (Sardinian painter and poet who spent more than a few summers in Portofino) and last but not least Guy de Maupassant, who described it as a small village that spreads like a crescent around this peaceful basin.
Among the festivals and parties do not lose that which is held in the September 8 Recco, known as the festival of fire.
In Camogli on the second Sunday of May there is the Fish Festival, and Santa Margherita Ligure each first show of the weekend, along with a copious amount of concerts and cultural events that take place during the summer.
Portofino offers a holiday of good food, nice beach, and fun.

Trivia: According to Pliny the Elder, the original name of the village was Delphini Portus, perhaps for the very presence of these animals in the Tigullio Gulf.
